Six days after some Sicamous and area residents were ordered to evacuate their homes, most of them are being allowed to return back.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District says the evacuation orders because of the Two Mile Road wildfire has been partially downgraded to an alert for the following properties:
- All residences within the District of Sicamous that lie to the south of the Trans-Canada Highway (BC Highway 1) south of Stadnicki Road, and east of Sicamous Narrows and Mara Lake.
- Areas east of Highway 97A southward to, and including, the community of Swansea Point.
A small number of people still remain on evacuation order as follows:
- Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park at 5 Highway 97A
- 800, 801, 803, 805, 807, 901 Graham Road.
“All homes in the rescind area revert to Evacuation Alert status and residents must remain ready to leave their homes again on short notice,” the CSRD said, in a statement. Residents of these [homes still on evacuation order] cannot return home at this time.”
“All homes in Sicamous which were previously on Evacuation Alert as of July 20will remain on Alert until further notice.”
The Two Mile Road fire is still listed at an estimated 1,000 hectares in size, according to the BC Wildfire Service, and its still burning out of control.
